The students are welcomed today for the start of the new school year, by the school classes of the Middle Schools and High Schools, as well as the Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training of the country, while the teachers of the Secondary General Education and the Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training they have been back to school since September 1st.

On the occasion of the start of classes in Secondary Education, the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Prodromos Prodromou, according to the program sent by the Ministry, will visit Engomi High School and make statements.

According to what the Director of Secondary General Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr. Kyprianos D. Loui, stated in a recent interview with KYPE, during the new school year 2022-2023, a total of 113 Secondary General Education schools will operate, out of of which 63 Gymnasiums (only high school cycle), 38 High Schools and 8 six-form schools with full high school and high school cycles, including Rizokarpasos High School. Also, 5 Evening Gymnasium-Lyceia will operate, in which registrations will be completed in mid-September.

It is expected that during the new school year a total of 41.305 students will study, of which 23.983 will study in the high school cycle and 17.322 in the high school cycle.

As he had mentioned, the staffing of the school units has been completed to a very large extent, since by mid-August 929 contract appointments and 204 appointments of permanent probationary teachers have been made, while for this year the total number of Secondary General Education teachers who are expected to to serve stands at 6.583, while a small number of additional contract teacher appointments are expected before the start of the school year.

The students on the first day tomorrow will be divided into sections and will get their books and program.

Besides, according to what he stated, in a recent interview with KYPE, the Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Dr. Elias Markatziis, during this school year the new school textbooks which have been specially written based on the Analytical Programs of the Technical Schools will be used.

He noted that during the 2022-2023 academic school year, the Technical Education schools are expected to have more than 650 instructors and about 6.200 students.

During the same year, 11 Technical and Vocational Schools of Education and Training (TESEK), 3 High Schools and TESEK (mixed schools) will operate in Poli Chrysochous, Omodos and Empa, while 2 branches of Technical Education will operate in Agro and Solea.

Also, 5 Evening Technical and Vocational Education Schools (ESTEE) and 5 Lifelong Vocational Education and Training Programs (PDVEEK) will operate in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta.

It is reminded that for the other Programs offered by DMTEEK, the Public Higher School MIEK, Evening Schools, Lifelong and Apprenticeship System, the start dates differ and are published on the YPAN Website.

The Public School of Higher Vocational Education and Training, MIEEK, operates within the framework of STEEK, in which 22 study programs are offered this year. About 400 students are expected to study in MIEK in the first year.
