The diagnostic examination of the Minister of Defense Savvas Angelidis was purely negative for preventive purposes, after an officer from the General Staff of the National Guard (GEEF) was confirmed as positive in the coronavirus yesterday, as the Deputy Minister of Defense told KYPE.

Answering questions from the Cyprus News Agency, Mr. Pieris said that after the case was confirmed to the GEEF, which concerned an officer who had returned from Greece before the country was included in category 2, the Minister of Defense had requested a diagnostic examination for same though he had no direct contact with that officer and had placed himself in self-restraint.

The result of the diagnostic test for the Minister is negative, he said.

The officer's contacts are already being tracked.

In addition, in connection with a confirmed case in a camp, the Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense stated that he is an officer in a camp in Stavrovouni, adding that a suspicious case is also expected today for a soldier in the camp in Klirou. The contacts of both are traced.

The two camps have been quarantined and are being disinfected, he said, adding that disinfection is being done at both the building facilities at the GEEF and the Ministry of Defense.
