An operation of the Fire Service is underway, which received a call about smoke coming from a docked ship in the port of Larnaca.

In a post on the NQD, the press representative of the Fire Service Andreas Kettis states that "the Service received a call about smoke coming from a docked ship in the port of Larnaca".

"Two fire engines including a chemical vehicle responded and investigations revealed that it was smoke from phosphine residue on the ship's deck which reacted when it came into contact with rainwater," he adds.

The Fire Department "manages the material and clarifies that there is no cause for concern for the public".

It is noted that the small amount of the specific material was taken off the ship and the members of the Fire Department using special protective suits covered it with a special foam until the fumes stopped.

The material will be received either by a management company or by the port manager when the Fire Service operation is completed.
