How long will the reductions apply?
For another 2 months, the reductions in electricity prices from the EAC will apply, due to the pandemic of coronavirus.
Speaking to Offsite, the spokesperson of the EAC, Christina Papadopoulou, stated that the discount of 10% will be valid until the end of June for the monthly bills and until the end of July for the two-month bills.
Specifically, these reductions were applied from April 1 for the two-month customers, while for the monthly customers that has started from March 1.
The decision was taken following the establishment of the State and the subsequent approval by the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (RAEK), in the context of measures to address the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic.
As mentioned by Ms. Papadopoulou, from the reduction of 10%, corresponds to about € 20 million, an amount that the EAC returns to the society and the economy of Cyprus.
At the same time, so far, in addition to the 10% discount due to corona, we have had a further reduction in the price of electricity around 7% -8% as international fuel prices have been reduced resulting in the EAC having bought cheap fuel. In fact, the EAC has already stored cheap fuel, which means reduced bills.
Finally, regarding the reduction of 10% due to the pandemic, the decision will be re-evaluated before the end of its implementation (end of June) depending on the developments for the treatment of the coronavirus epidemic.
