The president of the Pediatric Society, Michalis Anastasiadis, speaking to the Morning Schedule, made his own assessment, saying thata slight extension should be given as to the date of reopening of the schools.

He said that with the data that exist at this stage, ie the outbreak of cases, it is impossible for the schools to function smoothly on Monday, January 10th.

He informed that among those who have been infected with the coronavirus or are in close contact, there are teachers and students.

Mr. Anastasiadis also added that it is not expected until Monday, that there will be a dramatic improvement in the epidemiological picture of the country.

In the same show, the member of the advisory committee of the Ministry of Health also spoke, Petros Karagiannis, whose estimate was that if the schools open next week, will not work properly, as many teachers and students will be absent due to a positive coronavirus diagnosis.

He also said that all the data show that the Omicron variant is going to prevail in the community. However, he pointed out that there is a risk that new strains of the coronavirus will emerge from him combination of the Delta variant with the Omicron, which, as Mr. Karagiannis stated, will be more aggressive. Nevertheless, he expressed the hope that this would not happen and stressed that with the help of vaccination, better days will come.
