The Director of the Water Development Department, Panagiota Hatzigeorgiou, expressed her full satisfaction with the filling percentages of the large dams in Cyprus in her statements to KYPE today, noting at the same time that this January is the third best of the decade.
Answering a question from KYPE about the fullness of the dams, Ms. Hatzigeorgiou said that the inflow of water in the last twenty-four hours exceeded all expectations, reaching 6 million cubic meters and having already caused the overflow of the Pomos dam yesterday at noon, If the rains continue at the same rate, the overflow of the Lefkara dam is expected by the end of the month, as well as the corresponding Asprokremmos dam by the end of February.
According to the Director of the Water Development Department, the stored amount of water is currently at 70% of the total capacity of the reservoirs, a percentage that makes this January the third best of the decade, while noting that a fullness rate of 75% is expected soon. will ensure full adequacy for the water supply needs for the current year.
Asked about any reports of faults or technical problems, Ms. Hatzigeorgiou replied that there have been no problems so far, with the staff of the department taking daily all the necessary actions to ensure the smooth operation of the network.
