Written statement by the Minister of Health Mr. Michalis Hadjipandelas
Thanks to the positive response and the responsibility of the vast majority of our fellow citizens, we have won another battle in the war against the coronavirus pandemic. 80% of the citizens of Cyprus have been vaccinated with at least the first dose of the vaccines against COVID-19, while at the same time in the next 2 to 3 weeks the percentage of fully vaccinated will reach 80%.
The collective effort ranks Cyprus among the Member States of the European Union that have reached and surpassed the goal set at European level. The high rate of vaccination shields fills us with satisfaction and allows us to be optimistic that the continuation, in view of the winter season, will find us with greater safety and protection from the virus that has plagued humanity for the last 20 months.
At the same time, our effort is continuous and intensifying. The higher the vaccine coverage, the closer we will get to our goal of ensuring that the economy and society remain in place and that we do not again experience severe restrictive measures. The vaccine weapon given to us by the scientific community is our shield to reduce the negative effects that the disease has on our health, psychology, economy and social life.
