Cyprus not only has an institutional framework that does not allow wiretapping, but also has scientists who are awarded by international funds precisely to combat what is observed in all countries without exception, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, said on Wednesday night in his speech at the 21 awarding ceremony of the "Manolis Christofidis" Award of the Year.

President Anastasiades also called on the world of DISY to rally for the election of the party's candidate, Averof Neofytou, to the Presidential office.

This year's prize was awarded, by President Anastasiades, to Maria Terzi, Artemis Kotou and Lisa Charalambous, who founded the start-up company Malloc, aimed at preventing hacking and interception of user data from mobile devices.

In his speech, President Anastasiades questioned why the PEGA committee, "the one that investigates the imaginary involvement of the Republic of Cyprus in the surveillance that takes place in other countries, did not ask to see all three ladies, that is to see that not only do we have an institutional framework which does not allow interceptions and there were no interceptions, but to see that beyond the institutional framework there are also those scientists who are rewarded by international funds precisely to combat what is observed in all countries without exception".

He mentioned that the Malloc software in question now counts several thousand active users worldwide and that it is the first Cypriot company that managed to attract the interest and secure funding from the American company Y Combinator, which has the leading accelerator program for start-ups.

President Anastasiades emphasized the determination shown by the Government, "insisting on targeted investment in the fields of research and innovation, recognizing their importance in terms of creating a modern, sustainable and flexible state". He said that is why he proceeded to plan and implement a series of reforms and investments.

A landmark of the whole effort, he said, is the establishment of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, as well as the institution of the Chief Scientist, within the framework of which the optimal coordination of all existing government activities was achieved.

He noted that the dynamics that the mentioned sectors have acquired, "is confirmed, not by the opposition of course, but by the latest results of international indicators, something that some people think they should despise by projecting their own narratives".

He mentioned that Cyprus in the field of innovation is now classified in the "Strong Innovators" category according to the European Commission's annual report European Innovation Scoreboard 2022.

"Specifically, Cyprus ranks 10th overall and has improved its performance by 38% from 2015 to date, which reflects the largest improvement across Europe and is well above the average improvement (10%) of the member states of the European Union", he added.

He also said that Cyprus is the only Member State of the Member States that entered the EU after 2004, which records performance above the EU average.

"The country is ranked first at the European level, regarding the securing of funding for the creation of Research Centers of Excellence, within the framework of the Horizon 2020 Teaming for Excellence Program," he said.

The goal, he said, "is to continue the high momentum developed by our country in the fields of research and innovation", while the importance attached to the acceleration of the digital transformation of the state, based on the goals that have been set, is similar. in the context of the European Digital Decade 2030.

The President said that within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, "which will be the legacy of the present in the next period", there is provision for the allocation of 282 million euros, an amount corresponding to 23% of the total investments for actions concerning or contributing to digital transition, exceeding Europe's minimum requirement of 20% allocation of resources to actions with a digital texture.

He said that he mentioned these things, which, as he said, Europe recognizes, "just as it recognizes the economic advance of the country, which found itself facing three crises" which, really without the determination, the vision, the support of the DISY "could possibly have been from in 2013 a bankrupt country, as delivered to us by those who criticize today".

The same credit, he added, goes to Cyprus "for our advance in the economy". While all the countries of Europe and around the world, he said, are achieving growth rates that do not reach 3%, "our little Cyprus, under the government of DISY - Nikos Anastasiadis, is achieving 5.8% growth rates this year".

Referring to those who criticize the Government, he said that "they forget that we took over a state that had no money available except for the payment of one month's wages, no one would lend us even one euro, because the investment category of Cyprus at that time was in the trash". They also forget, he added, that it is this Government that set the National Minimum Wage, and that it introduced the Minimum Guaranteed Income, established the minimum minimum pension, and restored what the previous ones had cut off, "thanks to their pro-people policies". He also said that his Government has reinstated the Mother's Allowance, and that it has proceeded with the reinstatement of 50% of the Automatic Price Adjustment (ATA) and is negotiating on how it can be restored, while he said that "we are not the ones who imposed the 12% that exists the difference between pensioners aged 63 and 65". He said that the Government is proceeding "seriously with an actuarial study to see how this injustice can be removed through concrete arrangements".

He said that his Government has strengthened the country's economy through development projects that exceed seven billion.

We have a duty to preserve the stability, progress and development of our country. Far from populisms that led our economy to the trash.
DISY and the candidate of Averof Neofytos guarantee the continuation of the march on the road to security.

Regarding references by third parties to a "government of corruption", the President said that "they forget that it is during the present administration that for the first time and this is noted by international and European institutions, famous people were sent to prisons, that the institutional framework of the rule of law has changed ». He also said that they are targeting the Government for a program "which indeed, we must admit that mistakes are also made and the way the program was adopted at a time when Cyprus needed investments, and I am talking about the investment program and the so-called golden passports, was wrong.

However, they forget, as he said, that those who were brought to court are not members of the Government "not because they were favored but simply because there is no evidence", but that one who is brought to court, among other things, "and I do not want to say that he is the man is guilty, I have to respect the Constitution, he was a member of parliament and also a member of the Central Committee of the party that wants to highlight the scandal."

Referring to the issue of the presidential elections, President Anastasiades said that some people, "as soon as they see some bubbles, think that there will be disasters".

"Consequently, I want to assure those who congratulated for a short period of time that there is a rift between the President of the Republic and the rival of the President of DISY and a candidate for the Republic, they must feel particularly sad tonight or today," he said.

He reminded that this is how DISY was established, "through disagreements that provided the opportunity through the democratic authorities to build what was the most useful and the most powerful and reliable faction that gave stability to the place, that has created conditions that the Cypriot A democracy, even under occupation, should be a factor of stability in the region today, should be considered a strategic partner and its President should be honored by countries in the region with the highest honors, such as Egypt, Palestine, Jordan". He also said that on November 9, the President "who "exposed" Cyprus" will also be honored by Israel for his actions to achieve a strategic cooperation with an equally important power in the region.

He also emphasized the need for unity in the DISY, in order to become "again the protector of this country, and to succeed we need a leader who has the guts to make decisions, to dare, to be able not to calculate the costs, but to calculate the benefit and the one who proved it during my ten-year rule is none other than Averof Neofytou". "This is what we all have an obligation to bring to the fore," he added.

He questioned whether the post-election dilemma is stability, progress and growth as recorded in the last decade, "or regression and return to what we experienced before".

President Anastasiades said that what they are doing is to save and to give a guarantee that the continuation of the current administration "will be nothing but a continuation of progress", stability and a better tomorrow for all.
