A report on the strategic review of the peacekeeping force in Cyprus is expected to be submitted to the Security Council by the UN Secretary-General early next week.

Citing diplomatic information, RIK correspondent in New York Apostolis Zoupaniotis conveyed that the terms of Unicup's mandate will not change, as its usefulness in maintaining calm on the island remains unquestionable.
The proposal will concern a small reduction in the number of members of the force and a reduction in its costs.

The report is based on the recommendations of a group of experts who visited Cyprus in early November and headed by Special Representative of the Secretary-General Elizabeth Spehar, discussed the situation on the ground and met with the two leaders.

The deadline for submitting the report is Monday, November 27, but it is possible that there will be a slight delay of one or two days.
