The possibilities of convening a new Conference on Cyprus were discussed by President Anastasiadis and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Jonathan Cohen at the Presidential Palace.

According to government spokesman Nikos Christodoulidis, there was a common appreciation for the importance of the Tsipras-Erdogan meeting in Athens and for the results that will emerge, especially in the area of security and guarantees.
Mr Cohen was quoted as saying that Washington welcomed the possibility of a security debate between the two countries.
According to information from RIK, Mr. Cohen showed particular interest in the tripartite cooperation that Cyprus is developing with Egypt, Israel and Jordan, but also in cooperation with European countries.
He also asked President Anastasiadis for information on his meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, and expressed interest in whether the President would pay a visit to Saudi Arabia.
Jonathan Cohen also had a meeting with Mustafa Akkinci in the occupied territories.
In a written statement, the representative of the Turkish Cypriot leader stated that Mustafa Akinci briefed Mr. Cohen in detail on the developments in the Cyprus issue and what happened in Crans Montana, while explaining the difficulties that exist in relation to the sharing of power.
The Turkish Cypriot leader also told his interlocutor that the Turkish Cypriot side would not be involved again in an open and ineffective negotiation process.
