The new government plan "Photovoltaic for all" actually starts today with the public consultation and the information of the Energy Committee of the Parliament, said the Minister of Energy Giorgos Papanastasiou, who expressed the hope that the applications will start to be accepted from February 1.

In his statements, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the EAC's photovoltaic park in Akrotiri, Mr. Papanastasiou said that "today we have presented the plan at the invitation of the Energy Committee, in the Parliament and this morning, the specific category of the plan has been released to society for the purposes of public consultation".

"We will receive the comments in the next few days, after the public consultation, and we expect, around the middle of January, that I will present it to the Council of Ministers, as a proposal, so that it can now be released as a project, as a charge, so that it can go out, for installers, who want to take part in this category,” he said. He expressed the hope that, "from February 1, the digital platform will be open to receive applications from the world."

In an observation that the plan is not actually addressed to everyone, the Minister clarified that "the specific category of the plan concerns power generation of approximately 4,2 Kw and is addressed to residential properties that are medium to small in size and with a maximum power of approximately 6 thousand Kw per time".

"While we call it 'Photovoltaic for all', it is essentially for medium and small homes and it is meant for homes that have space to put the photovoltaic system, whether it is a roof or somewhere else, where the production is measured on a meter that is located somewhere else," he explained.

Asked whether apartment tenants can also benefit, Mr. Papanastasiou said that if the apartment building has the available space and there is an agreement of all the tenants, the system can be installed.

In addition, he continued, the system "can be placed in another house, which belongs to the family or in a piece of land, which is located somewhere else and it is understood that we can use it with the virtual measurement on the meter".

"As you will see in the announcement for the public consultation, (the beneficiary) will receive a subsidy of one thousand euros and the remaining capital will come from the RES and Energy Saving Fund and will be repaid in installments of 150 euros per two months," he added.

Therefore, he added, an average house that today pays around 400 euros, with normal conventional electricity generation, with the photovoltaic system, the cost will be reduced to 30 to 40 euros. "In addition to the 150 euros, a total of 180-190 euros, so automatically with the operation of the photovoltaic system you essentially reduce the cost of electricity in half", he explained.

Besides, the Minister of Energy was asked to comment on the fact that his name had been mentioned as one of those that would be included in the reshuffle of the President of the Republic.

"As you know, the reorganization of a Government is a constitutional right of the Republic", he said and added that "the President chooses his partners, he chooses those who will promote the government program".

He also mentioned that he comes from the private sector, he worked for 39 years in two multinational companies "and I offered after we agreed with the President of the Republic to help the country and him".

When asked if he felt bothered by the mention of his name in the media, he said "not at all" and indicated that "in multinationals there was reorganization almost every year".

It is, he continued, my personal choice to serve the country, to serve President Christodoulidis and that is what I will do.

"Our goals remain in the Ministry and we entered 2024 with vigor, starting today with 'Photovoltaics for all' and many more will follow, which the world and society will see that words become actions," the Minister concluded in his statement Energy.
