Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the commemoration of the detention centers in Kokkinotrimithia, Mr. Fokaidis said that at tomorrow's EU Council of Foreign and Defense Ministers, Cyprus will be present at the first step of the new EU defense union through the establishment of the Permanent Structured Cooperation as provided for in the Lisbon Treaty (PESCO).
As he said, tomorrow together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Foreign Ministers and YPAM will be signed by the states wishing to proceed to the first gear of the new defense union of Europe and Cyprus will declare present, we have already expressed our readiness and willingness to we participate in Europe 's new security and defense architecture.

Asked if the structure of PESCO will be at the political or military level, Mr. Fokaidis said that it will be mainly at the defensive level.
