So far in 2024 there have been almost 1.000 more returns of irregular migrants, compared to 2023, as a result of the measures taken by the Government and the emphasis placed on strengthening the return sector.

According to information from the Ministry of the Interior regarding the returns and arrivals of irregular immigrants for the period January-April 2023 and 2024, in 2023 there were 2.348 returns, while in 2024 the number is 3.337 returns.

In relation to arrivals, 2023 irregular migrants arrived in 3.522 and 2024 irregular migrants arrived in 3.703.

According to the data, arrivals in both years are at the same level - slightly more in 2024. In relation to returns, almost 2024 more were made in 1.000, as a result of the measures taken by the Government and the emphasis given to support of the return sector, it is added.

It is recalled that, among other things, cooperation with Frontex was strengthened, as well as the program of voluntary returns with the granting of a financial incentive, which ranges from €1.000 to €1.500, depending on the country of origin.

It is also reported that construction work is also underway for the creation of a pre-departure center in Mennogeia, with the capacity to accommodate approximately 800 people, in order to allow for larger-scale operations to arrest the migrants, whose application has been definitively rejected and who remain in the Republic or working illegally.
