The British government's position against the opening of the Varosia coastline in the same way as the continued British support for the relevant UN Security Council resolutions was reiterated in a letter to the Cypriot MP Teresa Villiers by the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

The Conservative MP for North London had submitted a question about Varosha to Foreign Minister Dominic Raab on behalf of the President of the National Federation of Cyprus, Mr. Vassilios Christos Karaolis.

In her letter, the Undersecretary of State for European Neighborhood Policy initially said that the United Kingdom was still concerned about the opening of the beach in the enclave of Varos, as previously announced by Turkish President Erdogan and Ersin Tatar.

"We performed in Turkey through our embassy in Ankara both before and after the announcement. "These have been reinforced by talks with the Turkish representative to the United Nations in New York and with the Turkish ambassador in London."

He also noted that the United Kingdom, in response to the announcement, called for a closed-door consultation on the Security Council on 9 October.

"The United Kingdom continues to support the numerous Security Council Resolutions covering the issue of Varos, particularly 550 (1984) and 789 (1992)," Morton said.

He added that in this context, London supports the statement of the President of the Security Council, which reaffirmed the support of the SA in the relevant resolutions, expressed deep concern about the announcement of Varos.

"The British government continues to be a strong supporter of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue, based on the internationally accepted model of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. "We welcome, therefore, the declared readiness of the parties to resume talks for a solution and we look forward to the resumption of the dialogue," he noted.

"The issue of Varos underscores the importance of reaching a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem as a matter of urgency and as such we continue to encourage the parties to engage constructively and demonstrate their commitment," she concluded in a letter to Villier. Morton.
