In order to combat the long-standing problem of noise pollution, the Ministry of Interior is expected to very soon promote a new bill to control noise pollution. Guest on the show Alpha Information, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannos Karousos, expressed his satisfaction because after years, as he said, there is a comprehensive plan that followed a consultation with all interested parties.

Specifically, the new bill gives greater powers to the Municipalities, which can now, after relevant studies, determine the permissible levels of volume in each of their areas, as well as the hours.

The new bill also provides for the installation of special systems that will measure noise levels with the Decibel unit of measurement. These systems will be connected to a central monitoring system of the Municipalities, which will continuously record everything and will be able to detect violators and the hours of violations. The Municipalities will also be able to appoint an employee who will undertake to inspect the premises, while if the intervention of the Police is required for the seizure of loudspeakers or another company, the bill will allow it.

At the same time, the relevant bill provides for the imposition of administrative fines on violators by the Municipalities, the amount of which can reach 10 thousand euros.

It is noted that the current legislation contained heaps of uncertainties and in the end did not allow the phenomenon to be combated, resulting in lawlessness around the issue.
