The shopkeepers of Paralimni express a cry of agony for the situation that has been formed due to the pandemic in the shops in the area. In a letter sent to the President of the Republic and the competent Ministers, they express the problems they face and ask for eight measures to support their businesses.
The letter is as follows:
"Through this difficult period for our country with the spread of Koronoi (covid-19). In addition to threatening our health, it also threatens the survival of our businesses.
We convey our strong concern to you and we believe that you will take the necessary measures which will be in the right direction. From our side we suggest as:

- Suspension of the obligation to pay taxes, contributions and debt settlements for all companies without exception that have suffered, based on specific data, a very large reduction in their turnover.
- Payment of allowances (400/500 euros / person) to the employees employed by the companies.
- Accelerate the procedures for the repayment of overdue government debts to individuals.
- Suspension of installments in banks, review of the regulatory framework with the new data that will arise due to recession, protection of the first home.
- Suspension for six months the sealing of checks by banks.
- Suspension or better write-off of corporate tax paid each year in the amount of 350 euros to the company registrar.
- Rent reduction, legal, set by the state so that small businesses can survive.
- Suspension of installments for value added tax (VAT) and interest-free installments.
We firmly believe that we will all cope with the crisis at a time when the country is moving towards development.
We believe in the essential measures that make every small and medium enterprise viable.
We hope for your immediate response because the Province of Famagusta is probably the most affected area due to the pandemic. All businesses in the Province are under threat of closure.
