The closing ceremony of the 7rd International Sculpture Symposium of the Municipality of Ayia Napa took place yesterday, Saturday, May 3, in the afternoon at the Sculpture Park.
In his speech, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Giannis Karousos, stated that with the creation of the Sculpture Park, the Municipality dared to form a new model of cultural creation and visual art, an open-air museum with thousands of visitors.
Culture added, is an area that the Municipality of Ayia Napa appreciates and promotes annually through various events such as the closing ceremony of the 3rd International Sculpture Symposium which marks the closing of a fascinating cultural ten-day event with various events, which had this year the theme of Cape Greco with lectures, presentations, theater, music and dance events and quality music.
Mr. Karousos assured that this effort that started four years ago will continue with the same fervor and the Park will be enriched over time in the next international sculpture symposia so that every visitor to Ayia Napa can enjoy it and gain a home of culture. from our Municipality.
Welcoming the attendees, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Kikis Konstantinou, revealed for the first time the new name of the Park in "Acropolis of Ayia Napa", which the artists themselves have given to the space and also said that the sculptors feel the same awe They feel when they visit the Acropolis of Athens, so the Ayia Napa Sculpture Park is called from today "ACROPOLIS" of Ayia Napa.
Mr. Konstantinou warmly thanked the Mayor Mr. Giannis Karousos for the commitment he made regarding the further development of the area and stressed that his ideas find him completely in agreement.
Mr. Karousos then presented the souvenirs and awards to the artists, to people who with their active and voluntary contribution contributed to the organization of the Symposium, to the sponsors and to the students of Ayia Napa, who excelled and distinguished themselves during the school year 2014-2015.
The artistic part of the ceremony was adorned with music and songs by the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis which were sung by the Music Group of the Ayia Napa Cultural Club "Cape Greco".
Then there was a tour of the Park where attendees had the opportunity to see up close the 97 works, which have been created during the three Symposia by sculptors, who come from almost all countries of the world.
