As Ayia Napa Mayor Giannis Karousos stated, “we have a strategic plan that includes various projects and activities. The three main activities concern the renovation and conversion of the Ayia Napa Monastery into an archeological - religious museum, religious and research center, the renovation of the streets of the center of Ayia Napa and the creation of an Environmental Park ".
He added that the specific projects "have been approved by the Ministry of Interior and the Planning Office, the plans will be completed soon and the announcement of bids will follow".

Mr. Karousos expressed the appreciation that first the renovation of the Monastery of Ayia Napa will be implemented and will be followed by the renovation of the streets in the center of Ayia Napa and finally the Environmental Park.

He noted that “apart from these activities, there are also projects implemented by the Municipality itself so that the coastal front joins the center of the Municipality and citizens and visitors can use other roads besides the existing ones, in order to go from the center to the beach and vice versa ”.

He also stated that “a big project - a challenge for the Municipality is the renovation of Katalimaton Street, which is a degraded and problematic road. The goal of the Municipality is with the renovation of this road to unite the urban center of Ayia Napa with the beach, to upgrade the center and to attract people to the specific area ".

In the framework of the goals of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, he continued is “the creation of sidewalks on Evagorou Street, an area with hotels, but without sidewalks. On the same street will be placed street lighting and the cost of the whole project is included in the budget of the Municipality for 2016 , is part of the upgrade of the Urban Center of Ayia Napa. The project is expected to be completed before the start of the new tourist season ".

The Mayor also referred to the reconstruction project of Agia Mavri, which as he said “was unfortunately a failure. However, we have given the design of the entire center to an architectural office, which based on our strategic plan, will redesign the entire area and it is expected that bids will be announced soon ".

He explained that “the whole program concerns a project worth 7-8 million euros, with the main goal of the Municipality to create a center of identity and experience, a region that is hospitable and sustainable so that visitors can seek to go there. The specific work will include covered paths, creation of greenery, benches and even works of art will be placed ".

Asked about this, Mr. Karousos said that "for a long time there have been several one-way streets in the center of Ayia Napa with the aim of both the implementation of the projects we have planned and the creation of parking spaces for the citizens".

At the same time, he continued, “we are planning and working on the possibility of acquiring a university school in the center of Ayia Napa. There is a proposal from the Municipality to demolish the multi-storey car park in the center of Ayia Napa, to create underground parking lots and to build a building with classrooms and workshops on top. Our goal is to enter into collaborations with various universities or other faculties in order to come to Ayia Napa and open branches ".
