The gunman who killed a police officer and injured two others in central Paris last night has been identified, but his name will not be released until investigators determine if he had accomplices, the Paris prosecutor said.

"The identity of the attacker is known and has been checked. "I will not make it public because the raids are continuing," François Molen told reporters.

"Investigators want to know if he had accomplices or not," he added, according to a Reuters report broadcast by the Athens News Agency.

Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henri Brande said the lives of the injured police officers were no longer in danger.

At the same time, however, the French newspaper Le Parisien goes a step further and reports that the perpetrator was born in France, was 39 years old and had become known as "Karim C"!

The alleged perpetrator was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempting to kill police officers in 2001. Since his release in 2016, he has lived in the town of Chelles, just outside Paris.

According to the newspaper Le Parisien, the 39-year-old had published threats that he would kill police officers through the Telegram application, an instant messaging service.
