The Democratic Party is the big winner from the processes that took place with AKEL for the municipal elections after it has secured the support of eight of its candidates in similar municipalities in free and occupied areas. In most municipalities, the Left Party will support candidates from party officials or the wider region or even guerrillas who have secured party pardons.

In three municipalities it will support candidates from the EDEK area. AKEL feels thrown into the collaborations since it did not secure, due to guerrillas in the other parties, the support it wanted for its candidates, mainly in large municipalities, such as Larnaca. In the end, only in Limassol, with the candidate from AKEL, the current mayor Andreas Christou, the tripartite cooperation works without problems and complaints. The tripartite operates in Paphos with a candidate from EDEK, in Aglantzia with a candidate from DIKO, in Kyrenia with a candidate from DIKO.

The puzzle of the candidates officially closes next Saturday at the meeting of the Central Committee which has the last word. The local assemblies have made their choices and it is usually they who ultimately secure the blessings of the central body. The Central Committee has a meeting scheduled for Saturday.
