Meet the new generation of C-Class

to 4571For the next C-Class, Mercedes is preparing an impressive-sized sedan that will flirt with the coupes, while its station wagon version will be just as impressive.

The new generation Mercedes C-Class (W205) will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014, just before the start of its commercial journey in European markets. This is a brand new model, with an impressive image but also larger dimensions than before.

The reason for the latter is, of course, the new arrival of the Mercedes CLA, the 4-door coupe version of the new A-Class, which will push the dimensions of the next C-Class higher. And of course, in addition to the sedan version, there will again be a Estate version, to meet even more needs.

Design for kissing!

Almost literally following in the footsteps of the A-Class, the new C-Class will take on a particularly attractive design, beyond the relatively restrained lines of the past.

In fact, according to the "spies", the new middle-aged German woman will get more nerves and edges than ever before, with her general lines referring directly to 4-door coupe cars.

There will be similar references in other Mercedes models, such as the application of the new grille that we have already seen in the new generations of A-Class and B-Class, but also the LED taillights, which are reminiscent of those of the top Mercedes

As far as the station wagon version (estate) is concerned, the design here will be very attractive, with the rear part standing out for the more rounded lines from the past, but also the LED luminaires from the S-Class.

They grow in size but also lighten

The new Mercedes C-Class - like the C-Class Estate - will be the first model of the German company, which will step on the new platform called MRA.

This is the brand's new rear floor, which will equip a number of new - and large in size - models, including the next S-Class. A feature of this floor is that it will help reduce the weight of all these cars, along of course with the next C-Class.

In terms of dimensions, the length of the C-Class will increase by 10 mm, reaching a total of 4.700 mm, the wheelbase (2.820 mm) and the width (1.810 mm) will be larger, while in the sedan version , the boot capacity will reach 485 liters.

An important difference, compared to the existing model, is the new set-up of the front suspension, with the McPherson struts being replaced by double wishbones, while the rear suspension, with the multiple links, will be upgraded.

Initial engines from 184 hp

As for the engines, we will see the new mechanical sets of the Germans that debut in the renewed Mercedes E-Class. So we will have the 2 liter turbo gasoline engine of 184 and 211 hp, while a new version of this engine with over 250 hp, will supply the new Mercedes C300.

At the top of the range we will find a 3 liter twin-turbo with 330 hp, while for the AMG versions a new 4,0 or 5,5 liter twin-turbo is planned!

For the diesels, the initial protagonist will be the 2,2 liter diesel engine of the brand, while it is not excluded that Mercedes will make the surprise and include in the new C-Class the new 1,6 diesel of 130 hp that comes from Renault.

It is a given, however, that in the range there will be a smaller gasoline engine, without currently knowing further details.

What will we see later in the future?

For 2015 and a year after the launch of the new C-Class, we are expected to see the first hybrid version of the mid-range German.

Also, a brand new 9-speed automatic transmission prepared by Mercedes will be added to the range, in response to BMW's 8-speed automatic. And of course, apart from the sedan version and the station wagon, in the summer of 2014, the C-Class Coupe will follow, while it is not excluded to see a Cabrio version with a fabric roof and quite aesthetic interest.
