One of the largest sentences recorded in the judicial annals was imposed today by the Mixed Jury Court of Athens, on 50-year-old Nikolaos Kontostathis, known as a "fake doctor", who, for thousands of euros, sold manjunias and herbs to people who had suffered from cancer - among them and two children – ultimately led to their deaths.

The "fake doctor" was sentenced to 8 life terms, 50 years in prison (20 suspended) and a 327.000 euro fine. This sentence concerns the seven homicides of patients and six attempted homicides, as well as a series of other serious crimes for which he was found guilty.

In total, 50-year-old Kontostathis was tried for 12 murders and 14 attempted murders.

The courtroom was full of victims, relatives of victims and others who had the misfortune to find their way the accused, who by selling them hope, managed to convince them to stop the treatments of their doctors and follow his own compogiannitika , which he almost always associated with faith, God and miracles!

It is indicative that before the announcement of the decision to merge the sentences (which is also the final one) the court had announced the following charges and sentences for the accused, who listened to them from the bench, without reacting.

Specifically, the court ordered him to:

-Life for each of the 7 murders he was found guilty of

– 12 years in prison for each of the six attempted murders for which he was found guilty

– Life and 300.000 euros for the felony of drug trafficking.

– Ten years' imprisonment and a fine of 18.000 euros for the crime of fraud.

-One year in prison for the offense of impersonating a medical profession as well as a fine of 2.000 euros.

-Two years imprisonment for the crime of forgery and a fine of 15 euros.

– Two-year prison sentence for the crime of weapon possession and a fine of 1000 euros

– One year imprisonment for illegal possession of a monument.

The trial for this particular case lasted about a year and dozens of victims of the accused passed through the courtroom, testifying what they experienced when they met him. Finally, it is worth noting that the 16 co-accused of the fake doctor were all found not guilty. Among them were a doctor, a former minister, members of the Board of Directors of a private clinic, a nun and a herbalist from Pelion!
