Stelios Sklavenitis, one of the four brothers of the family behind the supermarket chain of the same name, passed away suddenly on Sunday morning.

Stelios Sklavenitis, 52 years old, did not have any health problems, however, since last Thursday he was hospitalized due to the flu with which he was diagnosed.

Stelios Sklavenitis, together with his brothers Maria and Gerasimos, were in the management of the group and they lifted the weight of the merger with Marinopoulos.

The company was founded in 1954 by Ioannis Sklavenitis, Spyros Sklavenitis and Miltiadis Papadopoulos, initially as a Wholesaler. The first supermarket opened in 1969 in Peristeri, Athens.

The Sklavenitis group, after the acquisition of "Marinopoulos", has 538 stores in Greece and Cyprus.
