The arrest of a 31-year-old man in Thessaloniki, at around 7:40 am on Saturday, August 19, is reminiscent of an action movie scenario.

According to voria.gr, this is a Turkish citizen who was traveling to his country by road from Austria.

When he reached the Lagada toll road, although the signs at the spot require drivers to drive at a low speed, the 31-year-old's speedometer reached... 192 kilometers, causing his car to break the bar and overturn, while his engine was thrown 50 meters away, causing a fire in dry grasses.

He himself, not believing his luck, took a mat out of his vehicle to pray that he survived. In the meantime, firefighters had already arrived at the scene and put out the fire that broke out. However, as soon as the Turk finished his prayer he slapped the firemen, as he allegedly stepped on the mat, which he considered disrespectful.

However, he reportedly states that he developed such a high speed because he was told that his daughter had hit him and he had to return to Turkey immediately.

The 31-year-old was arrested and taken to the public prosecutor who brought criminal charges against him for dangerous driving, violence against employees, serial bodily harm, dishonesty and aggravated damage to foreign property. He was referred to be tried at the Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki.
