European prosecutor Laura Kovesi was once again a catapult against the Greek government and the judiciary in the country, speaking to a competent committee of the European Parliament.

He referred to the visit he made to Athens on the issue of the Tempi railway tragedy, underlining that "only one issue was of concern to the world and that was Tempi".

"The point is to comply with the national legislation with the European regulation"

He claimed that when he came to Greece he could not investigate former government ministers referring to Greek legislation. "How many tragedies like Tempe do we need to understand that corruption kills?" and added that this is how a "culture of impunity" is created.

Laura Kovesi during her hearing in the competent committee of the European Parliament made references on the occasion of Tempi to the Rule of Law stating that it is the guarantee of people's security, the basis that a better life is possible. "It's something that makes Justice offer something tangible," he said.

As he underlined "in the end, to feel safe in society, it depends on how we judges, prosecutors, lawyers, police, do our work and how citizens perceive it. Whether we are independent or not, courageous or fearful."

In a question received from Dutch MEP Sophie id Velt, Laura Kovesi said that she has charged 23 people in connection with the 717 convention. She reiterated that she was unable to investigate former government ministers because of the Greek law and the obstacles it poses. Due to national legislation it was not possible to investigate all aspects of the tragedy in Tempe.

"The issue is not personal. The issue is to comply with the national legislation with the European regulation", he pointed out.
