The health authorities of Greece have been on a "red alert" for the last few days, with information stating that today ρών it is drawing lots for new measures against the spread of the coronavirus - something that was deemed necessary after the record of cases announced yesterday, Sunday.

In fact, the fact that the increasing trend of cases in August is accompanied by the more than doubling of intubated patients in the country's hospitals is a matter of particular concern, a fact that indicates that the National Health System (NSS) may be pressured in the near future.

Concerns about the resilience of the NSS in view of the second wave of the coronavirus, are reinforced by the AUTh research on the course of the pandemic in the country, which predicts the daily need for 210 ICU beds by the end of September, in case a "Package" of measures to combat dispersal.

The president of the hospital doctors Matina Pagoni warned on Saturday through the TV interview in SKAI that in case the ICUs start to fill then the situation will have escaped.

At the same time, infectious disease specialists are sounding the alarm for the coronavirus spread index, which is already at 1 and showing an increasing trend.

It is noted that the goal of the Ministry of Health is the Intensive Care Units to reach 1.200 by the end of the year, ie the European average, which is 12 ICU beds for 100.000 citizens.

At the moment, Greece has 1.017 ICUs corresponding to 840 in the NSS hospitals, 145 in the private clinics and 32 in the military hospitals. Of these, 352 are beds Covid-19, of which 349 are in NSS hospitals.

Decisive meeting in Maximou on Monday

On Monday morning, a regular meeting will be held at the Maximos Palace under the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss the evolution of the disease. Experts are closely monitoring the situation in Athens and Thessaloniki, where most cases are identified. In fact, information indicates that the possibility of canceling the TIF in September is being seriously considered, in order to avoid the creation of an outbreak of the virus.

203 cases, 22 people in the ICU

EODY announced on Sunday 203 new cases of the new coronavirus in the country, of which 29 were detected following checks at the country's entry gates. The total number of cases is 5.623, of which 54.8% are men.

1.438 (25.6%) are considered related to travel from abroad and 2.705 (48.1%) are related to an already known case.

At the same time, 22 of our fellow citizens are being treated by intubation. Their median age is 63 years. 5 (22.7%) are women and the rest are men. 59.1% have an underlying disease or are aged 70 and over. 129 patients have been discharged from the ICU.

Finally, another death was announced, increasing the total to 212.

Of those who died, 69 (32.5%) were women and the rest were men. The median age of our dying fellow citizens was 76 years and 95.8% had some underlying disease and / or age 70 years and over.
