The new Mercedes GLA will be one of the most interesting first releases of next year, since with the launch of this model Mercedes will enter the category of compact SUVs for the first time.
At the same time, with the GLA, the German company opens even more the options bouquet of the new compact family that has created with a focus on the A-Class.
Today, the range consists of the A-Class, the B-Class and the CLA, while soon, in addition to the new GLA, we will see other options such as the CLA Shooting Brake and the first A-Class convertible.
As far as the GLA is concerned, Mercedes has only revealed it in its original form at the Shanghai Motor Show in April, however the electronically processed photo brings us much closer to the production model.
Bold and the Beautiful…
Full of curves, edges and sculpted shapes, the new Mercedes GLA is expected to be one of the most coveted Crossovers and SUVs of the era.
The electronic photo reveals a front part that will have many similarities with that of the new Mercedes GLA, however the bumper will strengthen its presence, to stimulate even more, both the dynamism of the car and the "off-road" his character.
This will of course continue in the rest of the body, with perimeter black spoilers running through the sills and wheel arches, but also with the presence of chrome roof rails.
At the rear now, here Mercedes has chosen a less vertical roof finish but also a small sized windshield offering an aura of coupe shapes.
Also note that the special rear lights of the original are expected to be transferred as is to the production model, further stimulating the presence of the model.
Interior with style and imagination
Although in the prototype Mercedes dresses the interior of the GLA with "futuristic" type upholstery and materials, in the production model the design of the dashboard is not expected to change much in relation to the well-known motifs of the A-Class and especially the newer Mercedes CLA.
So we expect a very interesting stylistic result, with many sporty details (eg the instrument panel with the two domes, the three-spoke steering wheel, the round chrome air vents) but also expected top quality construction.
In the spaces, the interior of the prototype is exclusively four-seater, with a layout of 2 + 2 seats. In the production model, however, it is expected that in the rear there will be a single seat with the ability to carry up to 3 passengers.
1,6 liter engine - And in 4x2 versions
The original GLA shown to us by Mercedes in Shanghai had the 2 liter turbo gasoline engine of the Mercedes A-Class and CLA, with 211 hp, 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission, and 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
We will definitely see this option in the production editions, however the smaller editions will be more interesting for our country.
So we expect the 1,6 turbo gasoline engines with 122 and 156 hp of the company, but also diesel engines from 1,8 liters and above. The front-wheel drive versions are also reliable, which will be combined with the 1,6 turbo and most likely the diesel.
We will know more from September, when Mercedes will officially reveal the production GLA.
