Increases "fire" in vegetables in February

A large increase of 26,5% was recorded in the price of fresh vegetables in February, compared to the previous month, according to data compiled by the Cyprus Consumers Association, based on the Consumer Index published on Thursday.

In addition, a large increase of 15,7% was observed in the same period in the price of vegetables in general, while the price of potatoes increased by 6,81%. The value of fresh fruit showed a smaller increase of 3,78%.

Other notable increases were seen in the prices of meat preparations (7,64%), chocolate (6,97%) and men's clothing and footwear (6,06%).

At the same time, small decreases were observed in the price of a series of products, with the largest of them recorded in cutlery and silverware (6,52%) and in edible oils other than olive oil (4,55%). The price of electricity also recorded a decrease, by 2,1% compared to January 2024.

Compared to the previous year, a large increase is observed in the price of olive oil, which appears to have increased by 54,34%. Similarly, the price of fresh vegetables is also increased by 26,55% and fresh fruits by 23,36%.

The most notable decreases observed in February 2024 compared to last year are observed in the prices of edible oils other than olive oil (18,55%), sugar (13,06%), footwear for infants and children (8,25 %) and liquid fuels by 8,03%.

It is noted that the comparison was made in relation to January 2023.
