An audit of a total of 1.000 lease contracts for Turkish Cypriot real estate used for commercial purposes was carried out until the end of November, in the context of the evaluation of existing contracts and the proper observance of their terms. The audits, which are carried out by an internal audit team established by instructions of the Minister of the Interior, concern contracts for real estate in all Provinces. The audits showed a violation of the terms of the contract in 98 cases, for which the procedure for recovery by the Turkish Cypriot Assets Management Service has been launched, while further investigation will be carried out for another 105.
At the same time, the Ministry of the Interior is implementing a series of measures aimed at solving specific cases of Turkish Cypriot property management. In this context, the Ministry of the Interior has revoked a license to exploit Turkish Cypriot property (agricultural lot) in Paphos District, after finding that the property in question, while it was subject to exploitation by a refugee beneficiary for agricultural purposes, was wrongly approved for a concession to serve another development by non-refugees. After a new decision by the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties, the specific property was recovered and the license will be reassigned to the original beneficiary, in order to redress the injustice committed against him.
It is recalled that in order to institutionalize procedures and introduce mechanisms for meritorious and proper management of Turkish Cypriot properties, with the instructions of the Minister of the Interior, the available Turkish Cypriot real estate and real estate will henceforth be published on the website of the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service, through which all interested parties refugees will be able to claim them, based on common criteria. The decision to grant a real estate/property will be made after the evaluation of the applications by a competent Committee, in order to ensure equality in the utilization of Turkish Cypriot properties.
