So four years ago, at the age of 17, 21-year-old Gary from Tennessee, USA, had just divorced his 77-year-old partner.
Almost immediately, however, he met the then 71-year-old Almenda at her son's funeral. Despite the fact that they met under the worst possible conditions, their love was thunderous. So much so, that they got married after just two weeks of dating!

"I was not looking for a younger man in my life, but I knew, from the first moment, that he was the love of my life. I was married to my first husband for 43 years and when he passed away in 2013, after seven months in the hospital from complications of diabetes, I felt very alone. I went to work crying and my co-workers asked me what was happening to me. I knew inside that I was looking for my soulmate.
When I saw Gary on the other side of the church I could not take my eyes off him. I approached him and said: "Look, you are 17 and I am 71, am I too big for you?". "Then he took my hand, smiled and said, 'Age is just a number,'" Almenda said.
Gary's post on their wedding anniversary says it all: "Like today four years ago, I gave my heart and soul to the woman who keeps stealing it over and over again every day. From the day I met you, I knew it was possible to love someone so deeply. My love for you goes beyond the limits of this world and goes deeper than the ocean.
We had our ups and downs, but we overcame them all together and became stronger. Thanks to you, I look forward to waking up every morning and working hard to achieve our goals and dreams. You make me so proud every day, since you are the strongest woman I have ever met. You motivate me and you are beautiful inside and out. You are not only my wife, but also my best friend. I prayed to God to make you my wife and today, four years later, I can say that in the end God gave me much more than I could ever ask for.
I promise to always give you my selfless love and to offer you all the care you need until my last breath. Thank you for bringing upside down in my life and for making me what I am today. I am grateful for the love you give me every day. I love you with all my heart ".
