The date of the elections was announced today by the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking to his deputies.
He stated that they will take place on May 14, the same day that Adnan Menderes also won a landslide victory.
“The late Menderes entered the hearts of the nation on May 14, 1950 saying that the word of the nation is enough and he came out of the ballot box with a landslide victory. Likewise, the late Özal won a major victory in the election he entered in the shadow of the coup with the promise of bringing Turkey through the ages. We came into government with the great support of our nation, which longed for freedom and prosperity, saying that nothing would ever be the same. We will start the century of Turkey, our nation 73 years later, once again on the same day. I would say enough is enough with these coup d'état jesters, these incompetent interlocutors, who were in front of us".
