A Katyusha rocket hit an Iraqi military base near the Baghdad International Airport, according to sources close to the Iraqi army and security services.

An army spokesman said a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a rocket-propelled grenade were found in the al-Jihad district of western Baghdad near the airport.

According to all the sources contacted by the Reuters news agency, there were no injuries.

U.S. officials have warned that they expect an increase in attacks on U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria, in part because of the second anniversary of the death of top Iranian general Qassem Suleimani.

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the recent attacks, Iraqi paramilitary forces have vowed to avenge the deaths of Suleimani and Iraqi Abu Mahdi al-Muhaddis, an ally of the Iranian general and leader of the " Popular Mobilization Forces »).

Today's attack was the second to target the base near Baghdad International Airport, following an attempt by two UAVs that was repulsed on Monday.

Two car bombs exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Baghdad, on Tuesday, killing at least two people.

Suleimani was killed on January 3, 2020, in an airstrike at Baghdad airport ordered by then-US President Donald Trump.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said Monday that Donald Trump should be brought to justice for the assassination, saying that otherwise Tehran would take revenge.
