Mayoral candidate Fernando Angeles Juarez was assassinated yesterday about 180 kilometers west of the Mexican capital.
This is the second murder of a candidate for self-elected office in just 24 hours, with days left until the July 1 elections.
The murder was confirmed via Twitter by the Governor of the State of Michoacάνn, Silvano Aureoles.
According to the Quadratin news agency, Juarez was killed inside his home by three men who escaped.
As of September 2017, 120 politicians and candidates have been assassinated in Mexico, according to Etellekt Consultores.
The PRD called on the Mexican authorities to protect the candidates and bring to justice the natural and moral perpetrators of the killings.
