A 7-year-old boy in Manhattan had a scary time walking down the street with his older brother. Suddenly and without any explanation a man attacked him and started strangling him.

The man was arrested Monday for punching and trying to strangle the 7-year-old, according to police sources in the NY Post.

John Shepard, 54, is accused of accidentally and unnecessarily attacking a child in the middle of the street on Monday afternoon.

The child was walking with his older brother, about 20 years old, when Shepard allegedly ran after him, grabbed him by the neck and started choking him.

The boy has minor injuries and was taken to a medical center. The perpetrator was arrested at the scene of the attack and taken to a psychiatric examination. He was later charged with assaulting a 7-year-old who risked his life.
