At least seven migrants, two of them children, were killed and 123 others rescued today after a boat carrying them off Libya sank, the Libyan Coast Guard said.

The captain of a Libyan Navy vessel told AFP that 123 people had been rescued.

The bodies of five migrants, who were dead when rescue teams arrived, could not be retrieved, Rami Gomeid said.

He added that two children were found dead on the boat, explaining that there is no other information about the circumstances of their death.
