Regarding public discussions and information provided by various sources regarding the situation of schools in relation to the pandemic, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YPPAN) clarifies through its announcement the following.
According to the official data recorded by the competent state services, on Friday, December 11, 2020:
- in Primary Education, 903 students were absent from schools either as cases or as close contacts, ie 1,4% of the total student population,
- In the Gymnasiums, 591 students were absent from school due to a pandemic, ie 2,6% of the total,
- while in Lyceums / Technical Schools 427 students were absent or a percentage of 2,0%.
Therefore, as stated by the Ministry of Education, "there should be no basis for exaggerations or even unfounded information put forward by various unauthorized actors."
The Ministry of the Interior, the announcement continues, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the competent health services, monitors the incidents that are noted and the relevant instructions are given. All interested parties, students, parents / guardians and teachers must follow the recommendations and instructions given by the Medical Services and the school management.
It is also noted that according to the current situation they were absent from home confinement either as cases or as close contacts,
- 85 Primary Education Teachers and
- 37 Secondary Education Teachers
In these extraordinary circumstances, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Education Service Committee make special efforts to appoint immediate replacements for the absent teachers.
It is noted that since the beginning of the school year, there have been 1993 contracts for the replacement of primary school teachers and another 1098 contracts for the replacement of secondary school teachers.
"The Ministry of Education, the management of the schools, the teachers and the general staff of the schools are making great efforts, in order to ensure the operation of the schools in conditions of pandemic", the announcement concludes.
