The competent authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are on standby after the detection of the suspected case of coronavirus in Cyprus, which concerns a Chinese citizen, who resides permanently on the island and had visited China the previous days.
According to the official announcement of the Ministry of Health, this is a "suspicious incident and not confirmed".
The Chinese citizen, had visited China the previous days and showed symptoms similar to that of the coronavirus.
It is recalled that the director of medical services, Elisabeth Constantinou, explained that the man from China had traveled 12 days ago to specific areas of China. He stressed that the man upon arrival at Larnaca airport was diagnosed with fever. He added that he was found to be HIV negative and therefore will be tested for coronavirus.
He even mentioned that on Monday we will know if it is a case of coronavirus and if it is confirmed, he will be treated according to the symptoms.
The announcement of the Ministry of Health also states: "The protocols set by the Medical Services and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health and the other competent Services were activated and the patient was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where after the relevant examinations the possible Influenza A ".
In order to further investigate the incident in the coming days, it is added, the patient will be kept in hospital.
The Ministry of Health, the announcement concludes, will keep citizens informed of any developments.
A relative was also restricted as a precaution.
Earlier yesterday, the Ministry of Health had categorically denied information about the existence of a Koronoi case in Cyprus.
