The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafeadis, announces with satisfaction that today, Friday, December 15, 2023, the passenger traffic at the airports exceeded the total traffic of the entire pre-pandemic year 2019. It is noted that 2019 was the year of record passenger traffic, while, in compared to 2019, this year is expected to show an increase of around 3%.

The above increase in passenger traffic, with a positive impact on the economy and tourism of Cyprus, is the result of the joint methodical efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, Hermes Airports Ltd and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to develop airport connectivity, while a decisive role in this result was played by the increase in the frequency of routes, the enrichment of the network of Cypriot airports with the activation of new airlines and routes. This year, 157 routes were offered by 56 airlines, providing connectivity to 39 countries.

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works wishes to once again thank his above partners, as well as all the involved bodies that contributed to this effort, while he assures that he will continue efforts to further strengthen the connectivity of Cyprus and to improve the level of passenger service through Larnaca and Paphos airports.
