Abolition of entrance fees to 12 Museums under the Department of Antiquities

The proposal presented by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Giannis Karousos, regarding the amendment of the existing Regulations on Antiquities, was approved at today's session by the Council of Ministers.

The purpose of the amendments to the Regulations promoted by the Council of Ministers is to incorporate into them policy decisions that have been taken and, among other things, concern the abolition of entrance fees to 12 Museums belonging to the Department of Antiquities.

Specifically, the 12 Museums where admission will be free and free are:

  • Cyprus Museum
  • Ethnological Museum (Hatzigeorgaki Kornesiou House)
  • Local Ethnological Museum of Fikardo
  • Local Archaeological Museum of Ancient Idalio and Archaeological Site
  • Cyprus Railway Museum of Evrychos
  • Archaeological Museum of Larnaca Province
  • Local Ethnological Museum of Traditional Embroidery and Silversmithing, Lefkara
  • Archaeological Museum of Limassol District
  • Local Archaeological Museum of Kourion
  • Archaeological Museum of Paphos Province
  • Geroskipou Folk Art Museum
  • Local Archaeological Museum of Mari-Arsinoe, Polis Chrysochous

In addition, the amendments to the Regulations provide for the addition to the groups entitled to free admission to Museums and Ancient Monuments of two new categories of beneficiaries, namely families with three children and retirees.

Finally, it was decided to add to the existing Regulations provisions for the possibility of performing civil weddings in certain Ancient Monuments and Museums with the payment of specific fees and with a certain number of people who will be able to attend.

These Regulations will be submitted to the House of Representatives for approval.
