CYPRUS: One death and 2.351 new cases - The picture is stabilizing

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 15 2022:

- 1 person died of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 673.

- 270 patients COVID-19 of which 88 are in serious condition. 74,08% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 20 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 95,740 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 2,351 (positivity rate: 2,46%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 223,767.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 1 person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to the disease COVID-19, it's about:

- An 88-year-old man who died on January 14 at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 673, of which:

423 men (62,9%), and

- 250 women (37,1%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 75,9 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 270 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 88 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 88 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 4 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 56 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 95,740 diagnoses made, 9,371 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 86,369 by the method of antigen rapid test, 2351 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 178 cases from 1,856 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 42 cases of 2,641 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 377 cases from 4,395 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 34 cases from 307 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 971 cases from 49,505 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 747 cases from 36,864 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 2 cases from 172 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
