The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, on the occasion of the holiday of "Clean Monday" (18/3/2024), informs and urges the public about the following:

When we go out into the woods and the countryside, we avoid cutting or uprooting wild flowers and bushes, since several of them are strictly protected, while some may be endemic and in danger of extinction.

We keep the area clean. We collect all the rubbish we create and place it in the bins or take it with us. If we leave them, even in plastic bags, they will be scattered by stray dogs, cats and foxes.

It is emphasized that lighting a fire anywhere in the countryside is prohibited, except for the preparation of food within the specially permitted and arranged areas located in organized excursion and camping areas. Lighting a fire within state forests or at a distance of 2km from its edges constitutes an offence, which, according to the Forestry Law of 2012, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to €50.000,00 or both penalties together .

In addition, the public is advised that in some areas pine beetles are infested, the public should be extra cautious, avoid sitting under or near infested pines and avoid contact with the caterpillars. Anyone who comes into contact with the insect's larva or its nests and develops a skin problem should seek medical advice and care.
