The Deputy Minister of Shipping, Vassilis Dimitriadis, spoke on the Front Page about the efforts to make the Cyprus-Greece ferry connection possible.
Initially, he mentioned that a very important step was taken by attracting interest through the tender document, we had three economic operators to express interest and submit a bid and now the last step of the evaluation of the bids remains and if all goes well we have the award.
Asked when the connection will finally take place, he replied that the terms of the competition provide for the start of this summer season. "In May, if all goes well, I estimate that we will have the first route," he said.
He explained that "it will be on a weekly basis. It will operate with 22 return trips per year, starting from April-May to September-October ".
He pointed out that the project will not be able to receive state support forever, the European Commission does not allow it, so the people must embrace it and create the conditions for its viability, so that the connection with Greece works on its own.
At the same time, he expressed the hope that the ticket price will be too low to attract people.
