Primary and secondary school students will return to school today, following the prolonged interruption of the Christmas and New Year holidays, in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The return of students and teachers will be done by submitting a negative rapid test 48 hours (excluding children under six years), while from today primary school students in private and public schools will have to submit a negative Rapid test Twice a week.

It is noted that in secondary education, students submit a negative Rapid test valid for 72 hours, with the exception of students who have completed their vaccination program (two installments) or hold a certificate of illness valid for 180 days.

The Ministry of Health had announced that the mobile units of the Ministry of Health will continue to visit the schools to conduct the Rapid test, for the better service of the students.

It is recalled that pre-primary schools, kindergartens and nurseries had reopened on 7 January.

Record number of teacher replacements due to Covid

In the meantime, as the Minister of Education Prodromos Prodromou had stated in KYPE, the Ministry responded to an unprecedented number of teacher replacements due to the pandemic. These are, he said, teachers who are either sick, or are in contact, or have to stay home with their minor children who are self-limiting.

Indicatively, the Chairman of the Committee of the Educational Service, Panagiotis Antoniou stated to KYPE that the Service has proceeded to cover most of the more than 530 replacements that the Ministry of Education submitted for today.
