Regarding the protest event organized by PSEM, tomorrow Tuesday, December 21, 2021, OELMEK expresses its support to the students' request for the suspension of the four-month exams for the XNUMXrd grade of Lyceum / Technical Schools, for the current school year
We note that OELMEK, from May 2021 until today, has repeatedly raised the issue of the evaluation of high school students to the Minister of Education and the Education Committee of the Parliament, without unfortunately any response from the Ministry of Education, despite the fact that parliamentary parties, except one, adopted the positions and concerns of our Organization.
We have repeatedly asked for the suspension of the four-month final exams for the XNUMXrd grade of Lyceum / Technical Schools, for the current school year, so that on the one hand the senior students avoid the pointless and soul-destroying process of the three central exams and even in the midst of a pandemic give time for dialogue with all stakeholders, to find the best way to evaluate them, which satisfies both the diploma and the access to the Public Universities of Cyprus and Greece.
Moreover, the fact that the three central examinations, in just a few months, are a problematic process, which does not serve either the seniors or our education system, is acknowledged by the Minister of Education himself, who in a written note to 5.11.2021 talks about the simplification of the system and the reduction of the examination periods for the XNUMXrd grade of Lyceum / Technical Schools. Therefore, the Minister of Education could adopt the common position of students, teachers and parents to suspend this year's four-month final exams for the third grade of Lyceum / Technical Schools, relieving this year's high school students from the soul-destroying process of the three examinations.
