This year's Queen was welcomed by the Mayors and Municipal Councils of Paralimni and Sotira in the central square of Agios Georgios in Paralimni.
The Municipality of Sotiras is leading this year's Famagusta Carnival with the carnival Queen's chariot, since the assignment of the Carnival King takes place in rotation in all the Municipalities of the province of Famagusta, which demonstrates the close cooperation between the four Municipalities of the free region.
Last year's Queen of Famagusta Carnival "Queen of the First East", choreographer Elena Ttofa, crowned the new queen, thus marking the beginning of the ten-day events of the Famagusta Carnival, which closes this year for 10 years.
The "Queen of Tourism", as stated by the Mayor Sotiras, Mr. George Takkas, is an issue that belongs to the entire province of Famagusta, since it can rightly be declared the "Queen of Tourism" in our country, holding the largest share in tourism industry.
The queen of this year's Carnival is the President of the Dance Club of the Municipality of Sotiras, a member of the Sotiras School Ephorate and a timeless Carnivalist, Florina Homerou.
The chariot of the Municipality of Sotiras, inspired by the history of tourism in the province of Famagusta, from the golden beaches of Famagusta, to the clear blue waters of Agia Thekla, with the Queen emerging like tourism, through the most important and beautiful elements of the province , the sun, the sea, but also the new developments that contribute to the enrichment of the tourist element in our place.
The events in the Municipality of Paralimni for this year's Famagusta Carnival will continue on Saturday night with the night parade in the streets of Paralimni while they will culminate at noon on Sunday with the established large parade in the central square of Agios Parali.
According to the Mayor of Paralimni, Mr. Theodoros Pyrillis, the participations this year are expected to surpass all previous ones, with more than two and a half thousand carnivalgoers and more than 30.000 visitors.
