AKEL general secretary Andros Kyprianou spoke about a dangerous statement and an attempt by President Anastasiadis to deny himself.

It would be much more honest, stressed Mr. Kyprianou, to admit the mistake he has committed and to apologize and not to try to hide behind interpretations.

He added that in fact President Anastasiadis considers that there is a separate EEZ belonging to the Turkish Cypriots and in which Turkey has the right to conduct any investigations.

Chrysis Pantelidis, on behalf of the staff of Presidential candidate Nikolas Papadopoulos, characterized the statement of President Anastasiadis as dangerous and wrong.
Speaking on the show From Day to Day, Mr. Pantelidis said that instead of the President of the Republic reconstructing, he essentially insisted on his statement.
The President of the Republic, said Mr. Pantelidis, is not a columnist to convey the Turkish positions, but he must defend the interests of the Republic of Cyprus.

Instead of apologizing for a dangerous position he expressed, President Anastasiadis is trying to justify the unjustified, said the presidential candidate Stavros Malas.
He accused President Anastasiadis that with his statement about the EEZ, he legitimizes the illegality and divides the Exclusive Economic Zone of the country.
Stavros Malas stated that the outgoing President, according to his statement, has no right to ask rhetorical questions and answer them in a way that leads to dangerous and destructive adventures in the Republic of Cyprus.

It is dangerous for the President of the Republic to make statements that can be misinterpreted either inside or outside Cyprus, said Konstantinos Zenios, on behalf of the staff of George Lillikas. He said that the President should have clarified his language slip from the beginning and not for two days his associates should try to justify it.
He added that at a time when Turkey is intensifying provocative actions within the Cyprus EEZ, this issue should be left out of the pre-election controversy.
