Parliament Speaker Dimitris Syllouris stated that the struggle of Cyprus and Armenia is common, against foreign aggression and violent uprooting.



Today, the Speaker of Parliament had a meeting with the Minister of Diaspora of Armenia, Hranush Hakobyan, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, following a relevant invitation from the Cypriot Presidency Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Fotis Fotiou.

An official statement states that Mr. Syllouris reaffirmed the support of the Parliament to Armenia and its people, while during the meeting, the strong historical and cultural ties of Cyprus and Armenia were reaffirmed, which over time translated into close and fraternal relations, cooperation and both at the governmental and parliamentary level, and at the level of the two peoples.

Ms. Hakobyan congratulated the House of Representatives on the election of Stella Kyriakidou as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, recalling her country's firm support for Cyprus-related issues at all international stages.

The Armenian Minister also thanked the House of Representatives for its long-term support to the struggles of Armenia, as well as for the relevant decisions and Resolutions of the Cypriot Parliament. Referring in particular to the operation of Armenian schools in Cyprus, she expressed appreciation for the support of the Armenian community in Cyprus and in the fields of education and culture.
