The website of Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of Russian gas giant Gazprom, came down today, apparently as a victim of a hacker attack, as part of a cyber campaign against websites linked to the Kremlin, which has been launched due to the Russian attack on Ukraine.
The hackers posted a statement on the website that allegedly came from Alexei Miller, Gazprom's chief executive officer and Vladimir Putin's man, criticizing the deployment of tens of thousands of Russian troops to Ukraine.
Gazprom's website was downloaded shortly afterwards. A company spokesman called the announcement "nonsense".
Alexei Miller last month called on Gazprom's 500.000 employees to rally around Putin to protect Russia as a major power in the face of foreign efforts to overthrow it.
The website of the Russian agency TASS was attacked by hackers in February, who sent a message to Moscow to stop the attack against Ukraine.
