The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis celebrated the inauguration of the Citizen's Center (KE.PO.) of Xylofagos.

It is really with great pleasure that I am today in Xylofagou, a community, with which I have always had ties and will continue to have with friends and fellow competitors, with people who love both their land and their community. I am here to inaugurate a project that is an obligation of the State to the citizens, but I have to confess, and a request of the Mayor and the Community Council to which we responded and as a result of close cooperation we have made it possible to hold the inauguration today.
I have listened with particular attention, Mr. President, to the presentation of the various requests or some of the problems you are facing. I have looked towards the Minister and he got the message, and now I also see the Secretary of the Cabinet, to see what he will do with some in the Town Planning – of course and it will be transferred in every direction as well – so that we can see how the center is implemented community, so that when I unveil the bust of heroes or the monument, I will also be able to establish the center.
Regarding the issue of the Bases, let me remind you that for the first time since the 60s significant areas of land, it has become feasible as a result of an agreement I had reached with David Cameron when he was Prime Minister in 2014, finally with the procedures, the bureaucracies that the plans that should have been made, to be released this year are being followed.
The assurance for the request I heard is that within the next semester, your request for the Church of Panagia will also be granted.
Projects worth 1 million 600 thousand euros have been carried out in the community.
I note only indicatively:
- The restoration of the old kindergarten in a Cultural Center in Xylofagos.
- The completion of a multi-purpose hall, the expansion and improvements at the XNUMXst Primary School of Xylofagos.
- The operation of the Ambulance Station.
- The improvement of the road network and the water supply network of the community.
Of course, I have also heard the request concerning the staffing of the Fire Station. I will see with the Archpyrarch how, with the new recruitments that have been made, it can be staffed so that it can operate on a 24-hour basis.
I want to assure you that our main concern is to see our communities prosper, to see hardworking people rewarded as they should be.
We have taken loads of measures and I think I am not exaggerating – if you look at the transformations in the cities, the transformations in the communities, the projects that are being carried out, projects that are over five billion euros, either carried out or being carried out, road works that connect key roads arteries, cities with the countryside, plans drawn up to incentivize development, in every way and opportunity we want to create conditions that allow us – in eight months that I am leaving, to say that after a decade I finally feel that something it's gotten better.
There is no doubt that every Government, every President is trying. I am referring to our own efforts, without underestimating anyone else's effort.
What I want to repeat is that fair requests are (satisfied), depending on the economic situations and conditions – as you know we have faced since 2013 a series of crises, financial crisis, pandemic. Just as we were ready to take off or find our destination again, the unacceptable happened: the invasion of Ukraine. And so we all citizens face problems that either involve inflationary trends or price increases.
On the way here I had met a group of potato growers who were justifiably asking to see how we can deal with the increase in diesel, to see how effectively they are dealing with the problem and the cost of production.
We have always stood by, not just the potato growers, but the whole farming community, particularly the potato growers, and we will continue to do so because it is a primary production sector that needs to be supported and will be supported.
I have given the assurance and we will find ways to help tackle this crisis as well.
Finally, I should mention that since 2020, when the appointment system was established at the Centers, 78 thousand citizens have been served. For this I would like to warmly congratulate the Directorate of Post Offices and those who have contributed and are helping so that the Post Office becomes a companion of Citizen Service Offices and that most post offices are converted into Citizen Service Centers. It is a Service that improves the quality of life, facilitates the citizens, for this I feel the need to thank and encourage you to continue your efforts. You will always have the support of the Government.
I thank the President and the members of the Community Council for the initiatives they undertake, for the effort to see the community develop and primarily serve the thousands of residents, because Xylofagou has essentially turned into an urban center today, and therefore it is also our obligation to stand by and listen to the calls of the Local Authorities.
I am happy because we are launching a project for the benefit of all residents.
