The Police issued an announcement about the incidents that took place by about forty people in Sotira, the attack and injury of a Firefighter and the firing of a warning shot by a Police Officer.

"Shortly after midnight, members of the Police and the Fire Service went to Sotira, where about 40 people had gathered, who set fire to a number of mopeds that they themselves were transporting to the spot. Some of the suspects had their faces covered with hoods, while others wore masks.
While members of the Police and the Fire Service were trying to put out the fire, some of the people who had gathered at the scene, started cursing and throwing stones at the police and firefighters.
Then, with the extinguishing of the fire, they attacked the members of the Fire Service, as a result of which a member of the Police used his service weapon, throwing a warning shot in the air, thus preventing the attack and forcing them to retreat, however, they continued to throw from a distance. various items to the firefighters and in a Fire Department vehicle.
As a result of throwing the objects, a member of the Fire Service was injured. He went for a medical examination at the General Hospital of Famagusta, where he was found to have swollen right leg and after receiving first aid he was discharged.
With the suppression of the episodes and after the people who had gathered at the spot fled, examinations were made on the stage, which will continue in the morning hours today.
In connection with the incidents, the Police is investigating a case of harassment, arson, assault on a law enforcement agency, joint assault, assault causing real bodily harm and causing damage to property.
